Wearable Optical Fiber Sensor Based on a Bend Singlemode-Multimode-Singlemode Fiber Structure for Respiration Monitoring

Respiration rate (RR) is an important information related to human physiological health. A wearable optical fiber sensor for respiration monitoring based on a bend singlemode-multimode-singlemode (SMS) structure, which highly sensitive bend, firstly proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The fastened by elastic belt the abdomen of person will acquire signal when breaths, introduce front back movement abdomen, thus SMS structure. Short-time Fourier transform (STFT) method employed processing extract characteristic both time frequency domain measured waveform, provides accurate RR measurement. Six different sensors have been tested six individuals experimental results demonstrated that signals can be effectively monitored among individuals, where average Pearson Correlation Coefficient 0.88 has achieved, agrees very well with commercial sensor. technique provide new portable solution respiratory advantage easy fabrication robust environment.
